Friendship with the Worimi, but also with the wider Aboriginal community has been part of the MacKenzie family for 65 years.
As Shire President, then Mayor of Port Stephens, I have spoken and walked the talk of Reconciliation for the last 40 years.
Using my trade skills in the sand industry, I was able to bring a vision and to make a promise to the Worimi Land Council around a small portion of the sand dunes of Stockton beach. With my son Robert, we were able to deliver a fair profit sharing scheme to the Worimi that has been a milestone in terms of financial security, education, training and employment.
Today, the relationship with the Worimi is living and solid.
